For fitness models who are already very lean, you can probably get away without doing any kind of extreme water manipulation but for bodybuilders or anyone who has to look extremely lean for about 24 hours, getting your water balance right can make a pretty big difference. I've seen bodyduilders get it perfect and guys who get it wrong and it can mean the difference between first and 10th place at the elite level.
But try it for yourself, go to the previous answers that Dan suggests above and see what a difference it can make.
