Hello Richard,

Intermittent fasting is an interesting concept. In theory it should be a bad thing because of the negative adaptations that the body makes when you fast, and how it can make your body efficient at storing body fat. However, if you are familiar with the Paleo method of eating, you will know that fasting is something that is accepted within Paleo. Check out Nell's article:

I personally don't purposely fast other than when I am sleeping, and even then I consume casein protein before I fall to sleep.

Is this something that you do?

Thanks for getting back Dan.

I'm just interested in the whole concept, the site www.leangains.com really advocate it and seem to back it up with alot of studies. Like to keep an open mind about it all and not put myself on one corner. I tend to use jissn to look at research papers, do u know of any other reputable journals where the studies are recent and have been conducted with a large enough sample group and control group? Heard a good quote about research papers etc " if you bully the numbers enough, they will tell u what u want to hear" thanks again.

Hi Richard

A buddy and ex-colleague of mine, Brad Pilon, is an advocate of fasting. He's also an expert nutritionist (meaning he has the rare combination of university education specifically in nutrition, experience working for big companies and actually "walks the walk"). He's actually done academic research on the effects of fasting on weight loss too, so you probably won't find a better resource on the topic.

I still don't personally think fasting is probably the best way to lose fat, maintain muscle and maintain performance but it may work well for some???

Anyhow, check out his website/blog at: http://bradpilon.com/

Thanks for that Richard will have a look at that site. Don't think I could go over 16 hrs without eating to be honest! I'd say my body would get used to it over time though, biggest fear would be putting my body in a catabolic state through doing this, but this is a mental thing as we have been told to eat small and often. Doing carb cycling and this seems to work for me as I have maintained my bf just below 10% for the last 6 mths. Might give this a go though and see how I feel. Would be good to hear if anyone else has tried this and what results they got??
