How can I measure my body fat accurately?

How can I find out what percent body fat I am?

I have a scale but I know it's not right. I was 170lbs with a 32" waist and it was reading 23ish%. Since I've been dieting (8 weeks now) I'm still 170lbs with a 30" waist and it's still reading 23ish%.

Hello Seven,

The simplest and perhaps the most readily available accurate way to measure body fat is using calipers.

The percentage of total body fat can be measured by taking the skinfold at selected points on the body with a pair of callipers. This test only requires four measurements:

Biceps
Subscapular
Triceps
Suprailiac

This is the sort of test that should be readily available at your local gym/health club, or with local personal trainers. Its not the best way to measure body fat, but as you can see the use of body fat scales using so called bioimpedance is pretty inaccurate!

The advantage to calipers is that its good to monitor changes in body fat.

I hope this helps.
