Can I successfully build muscle and yet eat chocolate every so often, like every day?

Thank you Tim for that very sensible answer. The only thing I would add is that dark chocolate, as Tim said, does have some "sporting" benefits. It has been shown to promote the release of nitric oxide, which therefore potentially makes very dark chocolate a great pre workout product. This is unproven, but its something I do every so often and I feel like it works for me.
In conclusion, its all about moderation, and its also probably better in the post workout period - unless you join my band wagon with dark chocolate pre training.

Yes, dark chocolate (80% or higher cocoa content) has been shown to decrease blood pressure in several studies and this is now very well established. It does so as Dan says by increasing nitric oxide. I also find it makes me much more alert for mental activities also. It is also a very powerful antioxidant.
On the other hand, it still has quite a bit of sugar and saturated fat.
