Hello Andy,

Well first of all I have just had a chuckle to myself, so thank you for this light hearted and jestful question! :-)

But on a serious note, this will simply be a case of increased abdominal pressure forcing your flatus out. My advice is as follows:

Make sure you have opened you bowels before you train.

Make sure your diet is high in fibre from vegetables, and low in gluten containing products.

I have a funny story to tell. I used to train a lady who when doing her abdominal training, and Yoga in fact, would almost always pass flatus once or twice. I used to ignore it, as did she hoping I hadn't heard. As soon as she left my studio, I used to spend about 5 minutes laughing! I know, very childish, but it did make me laugh!

I must admit, I to have also trained clients with "wind" problems during training and as embarrassing as it may be I always say " better out than in".

Now this doesn't mean I recommend you let out an almighty roar in front of the whole gym as you may cause someone to giggle mid rep and cause a barbell to come crashing down on top of them but I would recommend going to the toilet prior to exercise as this has always seemed to help me.

Oh my goodness! The reality is, all of us at one time or another has had this problem and I know it's daggone imbarrasing!. About 6-8 months ago BSN introduced a testosterone boosting product and I decided to try it out (you know at 62 years old just thought I needed all the help I could get). It gave me the most awful wind problem. At times I'd just have to leave and rest in the locker room so nobody would know where the smell came from - you know it kind of follows you around. Stopped taking it and voila problem solved.
