Should I consume food/supplements before I train in the morning?

I have a question about going to the gym in the morning and supplements and food before the gym. I was wondering if I should be eating a meal before going to the gym in the morning. And I was also wondering if I should be taking a protein shake before I go to the gym or is after good enough. I am new to the gym and supplements and am looking for any advice I can get.

If you are trying to gain muscle and have trouble doing so, add some oatmeal or some other "slow" carb to your pre-workout meal and feel free to add juice or smoothie and you could even drink a carb drink during training.
