Is l-carnitine a good supplement?

Is l-carnitine bad for the health? If I get it now and stop it, will I gain weight again and slow down my metabolism? And which is better, tablets or drinks?

L-carnitine is an amino acid that possibly helps with fatigue, increase muscle mass and helps reduce body fat.
