I'm training for an hour four times a week and burn about 500 calories each session is this good?

I train 4 times a week and burn 500 plus calories each session, my average heart rate is around 80% of my maximum. Is this sufficient to improve overall fitness

Hello Lee,

Improving overall fitness it tough to call, and to be honest, calorie consumption and heart rate during training are not great measures. I would prefer to know exactly what you are doing during your training session including time, weights, etc.

I would also like to know what your diet is like. Based on this information, you will get some great advice and opinions about how to optimize your fitness gains in your 4 training sessions per week.

And to qualify what I am saying, a heart rate of 80% MHR really is meaningless unless you have had a formal assessment looking at things like lactate thresholds, aerobic and anaerobic thresholds, and other scientific pieces of data. From that, you could use your heart rate as a guide, but with out that 220-age is a terrible measure of MHR.

Calorie consumption wise, apart from when I am very strictly dieting, I never even consider calorie consumption during training.

Hi Lee

To give a proper answer to you question, I need a few more details of what your training goal is and what specific training you're doing.
