How should I decide which healthclub/gym/fitness centre to join?

What should I look for in terms of facilities and staff?

Hello David,

I would certainly suggest visiting the facilities, and if possible try and get a free trial. If you are really lucky, you might even be able to get a free training session from a personal trainer!

HOWEVER, when all is said and done, the fanciest of health clubs are not necessarily the best places. They should be clean, and this is a health issue as dirty changing rooms harbor bacteria and fungus, so be vigilant of that. Look for the fitness centres which are clean, and have the best staff and fitness professionals. Look at the qualifications they have, and feel free to come and ask on fitnessinventor about what the qualifications mean.

Get to know the trainers, and find out what they can do for you, and how they can best help you achieve your goals. Ask if there are any joining deals? It might be that you work for a company that gets a special rate, so you should ask.

Just make sure its somewhere where you can comfortably train!

Also, go for the free trial at the same time of day that you will be wanting to actually use the gym, as you may find that if you use it at 6pm on a Monday, that you have to wait forever between exercises because it's too crowded!
