Hello Daz,

This is a very broad question. I don't really know the best way to answer this, but I will give you the information I know.

Tuna
This is great fish to eat as it has a high level of niacin which causes the release of energy from food. Niacin is also a detox vitamin.

Mackerel
This is a very oily fish packed with long chain omega-3 fats which are crucial for neural development and growth. Its therefore great for your mind.

Salmon
Another oily fish so great for a healthy mind, but it also tends to be low in mercury.

Cod
Tends to be a cheaper fish, but a great protein source.

Halibut
Another dense fish in steak form, packed with quality protein.

Sea Bass
Another great source of protein, this white fish is also very low in fat.

I am a huge fish fan, and I frequent many of the good Japanese themed restaurants whenever possible, and in what ever country I am in. I hope this information helps you.

The key nutrients in fish that aren't easily obtained from other foods are EPA and DHA. These are the forms of the essential fatty acids that the body actually uses. So if you take flax or other vegetable-based essential fat/omega-3 oils, they won't lead to nearly as much EPA and DHA delivery.

The best fish for supplying these are Salmon, Mackerel, sardines and certain types of tuna (see the nutrition information on the pack - usually canned tuna doesn't contain much at all).

If you don't get a bare minimum of 2 servings of one of these types of fish per week, then you should be taking a fish oil supplement.
