What type of exercise is best to do in a limited time frame to change my shape?

I am trying to lose a little bit of weight but would really like more to concentrate on changing my shape to lose weight from the tummy and sides. I have a limited time frame of about half an hour a day and cant always make it to a gym, can you suggest some excersise that could be done at home that would benifit me most ??

Hello Angela,

I completely understand the limitations with regards to exercise, so its so important to get your nutrition right, and combine that with a manageable exercise program. Fortunately, science has shown proven methods when it comes to exercise to lose fat, as well as dieting, so its actually pretty easy for me to tell you what to do - the hard bit is you putting it into action.

For the purpose of this questions, the focus is exercise. The best way to lose body fat is a combination of:

1. Resistance training/weights training - EASY in the home.
2. Steady state cardio training - EASY.
3. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) - HARD, but phenomenal results.

The difficult thing when starting a fresh with exercise is actually creating a routine. I am going to go against the grain a little here. My advice is to plan to exercise/structurally train every day. That’s right, every day. And the reason for this is that if you are serious, you have to make a complete lifestyle decision. The typical person gets up in the morning and has a cup of tea. They just do, its the routine. Your NEW routine involves exercise, so the first task is to work out a time in the day when you know you have 30 guaranteed minutes.

What exercise equipment do you have available?

What time of the day are you going to train?

Will you be training with anybody?

Have you used a gym before, or have you every used weights before?

Hi Dan,
I have used a gym before and can prob get to the gym once a week, at home I have got a side stepper, some dumbell weights and the davina macall body buff dvd. I have been doing the boxing workout on the dvd 2-3 times a week and doing my stepper twice a weeks and trying to go to the gym once a week even if its just to go on the treadmill .

most days I could get up and workout first thing or around 7pm in the evening.
I have changed my diet but am still working on this, I have been eating small meals every four hours as advised by a friend that are high in protein, although I do have to admit that I love my carbs and whilst I have cut them down I still have a small amount with my meals.
I wont be training with anyone.
My real issue is that my tummy is bigger than my hips and I would ideally like to lose this and no matter what I have done over the years gym, areobics etc this has never really changed.
I am willing to stick to something to get results - fed up of my jeans not fitting properly !!!!!!!!!!!!!
