Do you think Formoterol will become available as a fat burner?

I've heard it might be a product of the future?

Hello Greg,

GREAT question, but where sis you hear about Formoterol as a fat burner? My mate whose a doctor in Baltimore emailed me as he had been at a conference in Boston where they presented about this, but I'm only in the very early stages of reading the research.

Basically, ignoring the drug for a second, the research with all these types of drugs is focusing on catecholamines, which are hormones that regulate heart rate, metabolism and breathing.

Formoterol is a synthetic catecholamine, the metabolic effects of which have not previously been studied in people. Therapeutic doses given to animals, has been shown that it stimulates metabolism without affecting the heart.

Such drugs have been used in the past in livestock to reduce fat and increase protein levels of meat, but the side effects included a very fast heart rate - not desirable in humans clearly.

Formoterol is a new generation of this class of medication which is highly selective for the kind of catecholamine receptors found in the lungs, and not those in the heart. Its also more selective for a similar receptor found in muscle and fat.

In one research study, 8 healthy men were given the drug over a week period. Energy metabolism increased by more than 10%, fat burning increased by more than 25%, while protein burning fell by 15%. You can clearly see what the benefits of this would be!

This is all experimental though, and I would be interested to hear what you do for a living and how you heard about this?

I used to work for AstraZeneca and was responsible for presenting some of the benefits of a product called Symbicort (which contains Formoterol - I think it's called Eformoterol in North America) To Doctors and other health care professionals.

This drug should be thought of as a more sophisticated and targeted version of Clenbuterol. Any bodybuilder who has been around the block knows that "Clen" is great to increase metabolic rate and even seems to help with maintenance of lean muscle during dieting and may even increase lifting performance.

However, as Dr Dan says, it can certainly cause increased heart rate in some people, along with feelings anxiety. There is even some research that suggests that Clenbuterol may cause changes in heart function if used in large dosages so that type of side effect could be possible with Formoterol.

Finally, the biggest problem with Clen is that people get used to it very quickly and the effects seem to no longer be apparent after a week or two. I would be curious to know if this is also the case with Formoterol.

Some user logs on a forum I frequent have been mixed, but then it's early days and the optimum dosing protocols have yet to be figured out.

A friend offered to send me some of his injectable formoterol preparation, but alas, he is notorious at forgetting to post things to his friends.

He is a genius though, so I'm prepared to wait :)

Will report here if/when I get a chance to use it.
