quote from dan reardon
"I'll be honest, I am very old fashioned with pre-workout/exercise nutrition and I don't really have a lot of belief in energy gels. "
does this not lead onto the bigger questions of your attitude to all recovery formulas and the latest advances in all other areas of exercise nutrition and how this would biase your advice?

Therefore I must reiterate that it is not that "fitnessinventor" does not believe in energy gels, it is that "Dan Reardon" does not believe. This is based on my experience as a) an athlete - energy gels not working for me, and b) a doctor - seeing and hearing repeatedly how the gels lead to bloating and in some cases diarrhoea even before races, matches etc have finished.
My old fashioned attitude is that I train/exercise working off what I consider to be a diet that gives me a sustained release of energy, that enables me to optimally exercise. Energy gels, based on my personal experience do not work for me.
Recovery formula's are a different product altogether and have a different function to energy gels consumed whilst exercising.
I try new products and formulas to avoid been biased. I train regularly and engage with other members of the fitness industry, so my opinions (and they are opinions) are based on what works for me. When I try new products, I read the research, and listen to what I am been told by the experts. The most reputable experts are the ones that are honest, and give you the feedback from other users.
That's precisely what I am trying to do here, and I can only apologise if I am giving the impression of biased views.

I was prob a little harsh but I thought with you being the creator and with your profile piccie that you were fitnessinventor.
i now understand better the intended route.
good luck
I am currently training with a "training drink" which is working an absolute treat for energy whilst training. Its not a researched product, but the principles are becoming fairly well known through the journals.
My old-fashioned attitude is therefore changing some what!
