Hello Melissa,

This is an age old question, and its a tough one because essentially what you are talking about is an area that has stored fat. The question is therefore how do I lose enough fat to get rid of my love handles because the notion of spot reduction, i.e. losing fat from just one area does not work.

The best way to lose body fat is by a combination of healthy eating and exercise, and many would say an adequate/appropriate supplement program.

So at its basic level:

Diet

5 to 6 meals spaced out evenly through the day.

Reducing amount of carbohydrates through the day, but whilst keeping fibre high by consuming green vegetables.

Relatively high amount of protein, 1-2g per kg of body weight, and this will change accordingly as your body weight goes down.

Decent fat intake, and I would say at least 70-90g per day.

Decent fat burning supplements are an option

Drinking lots of water
Have a reward meal at least once a week, though twice a week if you are losing lots of weight.

Exercise

Combination of good quality resistance training for your entire body.

Cardiovascular training to include steady state cardio and HIIT.

When your body fat is low enough, you might be able to look at your oblique muscles and abdominal muscles and think of a specific way you would like to develop them, in which case you can devise a program in order to do that.

Sleep

Ensure the quality of your sleep is good so your body rests and you get good releases of hormones that will help your muscles and therefore help you to lose fat.

I hope this information helps.
