Candy Post Workout

Noticed Dan you eat skittles after your training, benefits of this vs some other form of fast acting carbs? How much do you consume as I'm thinking of trying candy PWO as something a little different

Hi Phil

The skittles have most of their calories from Dextrose/Glucose. This, along with maltodextrin and waxy maize and other high-GI starches are the ideal carbs to have after training.

Dan of course has a protein shake right after training also. So the candy/sweets is just a different way of delivering the same nutrients post workout. The only disadvantage is that you don't get the extra liquid that would be in a carb shake - although Dan simply drinks more water. The advantage is, he loves the taste of Skittles.

Cheers Mark, I was looking to take my whey after training as normal, but try candy as my post workout carb. I previously mixed a powdered sports drink of some kind into my shake, due to the limitations of supplements here in the middle east - the question is how much candy post workout should I consume to make it beneficial?

I too love skittles, so this was music to my ears learning I could have them post work out with benefit :-)

would raisins be alright to take post workout, or dried apricots? or should I rather stick to fresh fruit?
