At this point, anyone who questions the safety of creatine monohydrate is on pretty shaky ground, so I wouldn't value their opinion too much.
Creatine has a virtually perfect safety record. Despite over 15 years of use by millions of people, no healthy person has suffered a major side effect that has been attributed to it. The scientific reviews tell the same story. There has now even been quite a bit of research in children with rare muscle diseases and even the kids have no side effects on long-term use. So I don't see any issues with taking creaine long term.
Also, it was proven long ago that taking creatine doesn't interfere with your body's ability to produce or metabolise it, so that argument is no longer valid either.
I've been on it with only a few brief brakes for over ten years. There doesn't seem to be any advantage to taking it before training and there may be advantages to spreading out dosages, so you may want to take it in the morning or before bed and after training and skip the pre-training dosage...but probably won't make much difference.
