Post and Pre Workout meals (Paleo)

I am a triathlete and I've been on the paleo diet (lifestyle) for 6 weeks, and feel great, times are improving and recovery times are lower.
However, I am finding it hard to get enough food in before and after a hard workout session (over 3 hours). Especially post workout, I am very tried and sleepy a few hours after the workout out has ended. I am eating proteins within the 30 min window and then some salad with chicken etc... after that.
Any suggestions? 1 thought i had was that I maybe not getting enough calories during the workout (approx 200cal per hour) in the form of a gel. I am male, 153 pounds.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Your gel delivers 50 grams of carbs per hour which should be more than enough if your routine carb intake is high (as it should be for a triathlete). If you aren't getting at very least another 300 grams of carbs in per day, then you are probably going to be chronically glycogen depleted and this is most likely to decrease your performance and result in your hitting the wall in a race some time soon.
I believe you can eat sweet potato on the paleo diet but regardless, you are eating gel (which is not strictly paleo), so add in either some sweet potato or some other starchy carb or sugar right after racing/training and throughout the day and you'll probably find that your performance improves.
