Milk or Water?

Hi Guys,
I currently use Skimmed milk in my Whey Protein shake. People say to me it's best to use water as thats what they've been told and never back it up with reason.
I'm currently on a fat loss training plan that involves weights 3 times per week and 2 HIIT sessions per week. I've cleaned up my diet but in doing so think I'm not hitting 2500 calories a day. I don't calorie count properly but go on the feedback my body gives and how I feel. I'm still losing a few pounds weekly so heading in the right direction. The way I see it is that as I'm not hitting my calories then using the milk will help me achieve whats required to fuel intense workouts.
Can you let me know if it's ok to use milk to boost calorie intake and also if water is better to use instead of milk?, If so, why?
I appreciate your feed back and you've helped me change my view points from what people say or how it's marketed to going with what science and research says.
Keep up the fantastic work.
Many Thanks,
Patrick.

Milk doesn't alter the beneficial effects of whey protein. It won't slow down absorption (unless you are drinking litres of the stuff with your whey) and it won't interfere with the health benefits of the whey protein. The only thing you have to consider is the milk adds about 125 calories per cup (250mL) and 12g of that is sugar (lactose), about 5g is fat (for semi-skim / 2% milk). The good part is that it is also about 8 grams of quality protein.
So as long as you account for the extra carbs, fat and calories in the milk so that it doesn't foil your efforts by preventing fat loss, there is no reason not to drink it with milk.
I think since most guys want to avoid excess carbs, fat and calories and whey protein minimises these, they aren't sure why you'd want to add them back in but as you said, you're hitting your targets, so it's all good.
