Whats truth in nutrition?

Hi I'm new to the site so sorry if this is something you've answered a similar question a million times.
Im 33 years old and not led a very active life im trying to loose weight and generally look better and feel better about my body. Now ive been going to the gym on and off for about 2 years now (mostly off due to injuring something or just get demotivated after not getting any changes). I know my diet is an important part and ive struggled to stick to a diet but tbh I'm very confused about what is good and what is bad for me I read an article today that someone posted on facebook which goes against a lot of what I knew about food before.
http://authoritynutrition.com/11-biggest-lies-of-mainstream-nutrition/
The link is the article I read, is there anything you could add, share or comment on about the article to advise if its true or not as its just confusing me atm.
Also having a browse through some of the questions on here I've noticed you recommend EAAs as a pre trainer, is there any brands you would recommend and do they come with all the EAAs needed or do I need to buy different brands etc to get all my body requires?
Any help would be great and thanks in advance.

I was expecting to read your link and have to blast the information (as so often happens because 90% of nutrition/supplement advice on the internet and in the media is hopeless), however, except for the one about eating more meals, and the comment that gluten can cause health problems, I agree with the content.
Even the one about eating lots of small meals is debatable - I do advise more than 3 meals because eating more often helps avoid cravings and making bad food choices because it avoids you getting hungry. It also does raise metabolism if the meals are high in protein.
If you read my basic diet article that I send to people to get them started [ http://fitnessinventor.com/articles/1789-musclediet-six-pack-plan ], it advises many of these same things. I've been talking about many of those topics for years, so it's nice to see I'm not the only one who actually reads the nutrition research!!
