Can you tell me about pyramid volume training?

Hi guys, could you give me some information on pyramid volume training, I've heard a bit about it but was wondering if it worked and would it be a good start to start building up lean muscle.

Also what type of protein would you recommend for starting to lean up and get "ripped"

Thanks

"Pyramid" training is just the concept of gradually increasing the weight with each set of a particular exercise and then once the target maximum-weight set has been completed, you come back down in weight with each set. This allows you a nice gradual warm up, peak work set(s) and then the ability to maintain a good number of reps with decent form in your last several sets.

The "volume" descriptor just means that you are focusing on doing a large number of sets. So if a typical session is probably two or three "work" sets, then a volume session would have five to 10 "work" sets. This is good old-fashioned bodybuilding mass training and is the most typical type of training that most pro bodybuilders who I have observed actually use.

You may not want to use this form of training for too long a duration (more than 8 - 12 weeks) without some time off or some lower-volume work, as you may find that you burn out, over-train or possibly increase your odds of injury - but everyone should "periodize" their training and even take a week or two off entirely every few months to allow for optimum recuperation...you'll actually get better results and spend less time in the gym!!

For protein, I would recommend just purchasing a quality brand of whey protein that is low in carbs and fat (less than 2 or 3 grams of each per serving - assuming a typical product delivers 22 grams of protein per serving). I've used PhD, Reflex, Optimum, Nitro-Tech (slightly more expensive but more benefits), Myofusion (slightly high in carbs but the banana and the chocolate taste great), Dymatize, etc...

Thanks for the reply, I've just bought some maxx essentials whey powder, not the most expensive but at 24g of protein and low fat/carb intake plus the cheap price it hooked me in. I also got some creadex capsules as I don't like the creative powder and will be starting the pyramid training tonight, I have 9 weeks till my holiday so will then be taking 2 weeks off from the gym so should go well.
Let's hope I see some results.
Thanks again.
