Do I need to eat bread to gain?

Hi,
I eat lots of healthy foods and try to get up to 4500 kcal per day for my gains to compete. However I don't eat any breads because I read that they're bad for the gut. Should I include bread in a gaining diet or avoid them like I do now? I get my carb sources from oats, sweet potatoes, whole grain rice and pasta.

Bread is fine if you tolerate it (as most people do). However, if you are gaining fat or not losing it when you are trying to cut up, bread, along with sugar and starchy carbs need to be cut as the best strategy for losing the fat and for health. Bread is only bad for the gut if you have a gluten intolerance or suffer from acid indigestion, etc. Having said that, oats, sweet potato and whole rice are probably slightly better choices for a variety of reasons.
