Mark: Should my pre-bed meal be a protein blend?

Hi Mark,

I'm considering adding one last pre-bed meal. This will consist of one serving of CNP Professional Pro Peptide. I chose this because it contains 45g of a quality protein blend (6g Carbs, 3g sugar) per serving. Or would it be better if I opt for a Casein-only product.

My goal is lean up. Please refer to my diet below and advise if I should add it or not;

- 4 whole eggs + 1 small wholemeal pitta + salad + MultiV + Omega 3 cap

- Green tea

- Whey + creatine (3g) + 60g Oats +20g Flaxseed + cinnamon+250ml skimmed milk

-150g extra lean minced beef + green veg

-Tuna + small wholemeal pitta + salad+ Mixed Nuts

-10mins pre workout - EAA Stack

-Workout

-Whey + creatine(3g) + 30g glycomaize

- 150g Chicken + Green Veg + MultiV + Omega 3 cap+ tbsp organic peanut butter+tbsp raw honey.

-** Last meal - CNP Pro Peptide shake then off to bed.

Thanks,
Castell

Hi Castell,

Casein may help more with prevention of muscle breakdown at night but I'm not sure how much effect it has in reality. Also it can compromise your appetite and your response to the breakfast meal (the muscle-building response may be less from your breakfast due to the constant flow of protein from the casein over night.

So my advice is usually just to have solid food or a whey shake before bed but taking a blend or a casein shake probably won't hurt overall.
