I'm taking Optimum Gold Standard whey; do I still need to take EAA tablets?

Hi,

Do I still need to take EAA tablets? I'm taking Optimum Gold Standard whey and that contains all of the EAA's and BCAA.

Thanks.

Hi Winnie,

Most of the time, the high levels of BCAAs (branched chain amino acids) and EAAs (essential amino acids) in whey protein will be more than adequate. However, just before exercise, EAAs have been shown to be the best thing to take if you want to maximize the muscle-building process both during and after exercise (and whey protein was tested under virtually the same circumstances as EAAs but didn't have the same potent effects). Before this research came out about ten years ago, I used to recommend just having whey protein right after training with carbs (and creatine, etc) and I didn't think protein or amino acids were of much use but now I recommend EAAs for people who are serious about getting the absolute maximum effects out of their workout.
