Mark: I'm trying to bulk, what sort of foods I should eat to increase my carbs and calories?

Directed to Mark Gilbert.
I'm trying to bulk but am finding it difficult to know what sort of foods I should eat to increase my carbs and calories, at the moment I'm eating on a nearly daily basis; chicken, noodles, eggs, wholemeal bread, and sweet potatos. Any advice to what sort of foods I should be eating instead/add to increase my calorie/carb intake would be great.

Thanks.

Hi Peter,

I always advocate a core diet of high protein (including whey protein, whole eggs and fish, etc), lots of vegetables, some fruit and healthy fats. This part of your diet never changes. The level of carbs (and to a much smaller degree, fats) is adjusted upwards or downwards depending upon your goals, metabolism and type of training. This way, you're always getting enough of the crucial healthy nutrients and then if you add some starchy carbs and even some sugar, buiscuts, cake, etc when bulking, you'll still be getting enough good foods to balance out the bad.

So the answer is that as long as your core diet and supplement intake is good, then you can start adding food that you enjoy and might not be considered as healthy. So as long as you don't go crazy, you can choose foods you like when bulking - there's no point eating all clean food when bulking unless that works for you.
