Hi Sharon,

It depends upon several things:

1. how big was the meal - if large, then you should eat it that much more in advance of training
2. Meal composition - if high in fat, protein or fibre, then it takes longer to digest.
3. what kind of workout - if you're lifting weights, then you don't need to take as much time after a meal as if you are doing cardio or HIIT.
4. Genetics - some people are just able to eat closer to their workouts than others.

So unfortunately, the best advice I can give you is to avoid fat and go with quickly-absorbed protein sources (like whey) and otherwise, it's just trial and error as to finding out what works best for you.

I personally allow myself 1.5hrs. I eat a meal consisting of protein, carbs and veg.

Thanks Guys... unfortunately I have just started my fitness journey.. so not really understanding in depth of whey and really understanding how to eat for my body..(always ate for my emotions before) so im obese.. and have lost 7lbs in 2 weeks.. so im on the right track.. exercising on the treadmill at home.. so just getting used to learning to breathe first!! would love to know more about foods and would appreciate if you could steer me in the right direction of maybe a book that would be helpful. Once again thanks..x

Hi Sharon,

We'll be posting a diet article soon, just currently working on it in addition to several other tasks but keep an eye out for it.
