How can I stop myself from feeling hungry after my supper in the evenings ?

Hi,
I'm finding it quite hard to eat clean and stay full in the evening. I am fine up until my supper at around 6-8oc. Then within an hour of consuming this, I feel hungry yet again and have a protein shake or some kind of bad food which is really annoying. I feel guilty when I do but if I ignore this, I often start to feel sick during the evening. How can I stop this?

Hi Bradley,

You are half way there because you have identified the time of day when you are most likely to cheat. Now you have to devise a strategy.

Probably the most effective thing to do is to have a whey protein shake 30 minutes before dinner (whey protein suppresses appetite very effectively) and then after dinner, drink 1/2 to 1 litre of water. This will increase your feeling of fullness.

If you still feel hungry, have another protein shake and an apple or banana. The key to actually doing this is to write it down and don't give your mind the option of thinking of another food choice. Say to yourself that the bad food will only taste good for a few minutes and then you will feel horrible and you'll have foiled all of your efforts throughout the day to eat right and all of your time spend in the gym. You have to have a clear strategy in your head and don't let the "little voice" try to justify eating bad foods!

Remember, unless you have a very fast metabolism, you simply will not get lean without sticking to a good diet!
