Should carbohydrate be consumed after a workout at night time?

Should carbs be consumed as well as protein post workout even though the workout was done in the evening, or does it depend on your goals?

Thanks!

Mitch,

As you already suggested it depends on your goals. However; post workout nutrition is so important, so ensure you are getting enough quality fast acting carbohydrates and protein as your body is in a catabolic state.

Great question.

Hi Mitch,

The only scenario in which I would say to decrease post-workout carbs (except for guys doing complex carb-cycling diets) is if you are in a cutting phase and have reached a plateau despite totally cleaning up all other aspects of your diet. In other words, you have already removed all other starchy and sugary carbs from the diet at all other meals and snacks and the only carbs left to cut are your post-workout carbs. Truthfully, this rarely is necessary unless the person in question is not doing enough cardio/HIIT or is not training intensely or often enough.
