When is the best time to do an abdominal workout?

When would you say is the best time to do an abdominal workout?

After HIT training or a weights session?

Would you advise to work upper, lower and obliques in the one session?

Would you go through a rep range or until failure for each exercise?

Hi Quelly,

I'd personally rather do it after an HIIT or cardio session because I wouldn't want to divert my "pump" from the muscles I just trained towards my abs. I'd also do my whole core - obliques, upper and lower abs in the same session. I would do abs once per week if you have been training them for a long time and perhaps twice per week if you haven't consistently and intensely trained them over the years...but guys who have better abs than me, train them more often (although other guys who have better abs than me also train them less often).

Quelly,

Marks answer is absolutely spot on, the only thing I would add is if you ever do train your abs on a weight session based day I would always train them at the end of the workout. As like any other muscle group, when you train your abs you should be training them and the core to a fatigued state, basically you will be breaking them down and weaken them in order to rebuild. If you train them at the start of your workout and then say for example move onto heavy squats, due to the weakened state of the core etc you really are asking for trouble when you need this muscle in order to stabilise good form. He this helps bro. Cheers
