Hi
Dont know if its just me but i cant stand brown rice; so is there a great way in order to make it better? or is there great/better alternatives (around same GI levels) to use instead of brown rice such as wholemeal pasta?
Thanks!

Bodybuilders and fitness models love their brown rice and I usually don't have the heart to tell them what I'm about to tell you but first a little background...
I know a little about all this glycaemic index stuff because I attended lectures at the University of Toronto by a guy named Dr David Jenkins and he came up with the whole glycemic index concept. Then when I worked for the giant Canadian supplement company MuscleTech, we worked with scientists at the University of Toronto, looking at nutrients and herbs that affected insulin function.
Anyhow, here's the scoop, and it's good news, brown rice (depending upon the type) has about the same glycemic index and possibly a slightly higher one as compared to long-grain white rice. Depending upon how it is prepared and what type it is, brown rice's GI, ranges from 50 to 87 - probably the type Westerners mostly use averages about 65. The GI of long-grain white rice (again depending upon prep and type) ranges from 52 to 75...and the type you are most likely to find in Western countries is closer to 52.
Yep, so you could have been eating long-grain rice all this time and actually had better blood sugar and insulin control!
Oh ya, and as far as what to add to rice, I just add my favourite pasta sauce, there are tons of varieties to choose from that taste great and it adds a good, healthy serving or two of vegetables and very few calories to the meal!
