Hi All,
If anyone (especially older women) is panicking about a study that showed that older women may have a higher risk of death if they take vitamins...don't.
We see these kinds of stories in the media several times per year. It's funny, a study that showed that the vitamin folic acid decreased the risk of certain developmental diseases in children came out at about the same time and didn't get much press but this study got tons - controversy sells...it's apparently not a news story that vitamins or supplements are healthy!!!
Anyhow, in the case of this study, even The National Health Service website stated that it “had its limitations” and that, overall, “the study cannot show that vitamin supplements cause early death”. So if your diet isn't full of fruits, vegetables, meats and fish, then you should probably continue (or start) taking a multivitamin/mineral.
